I've never seen any adaptation of Les Miserables, but I've actually considered going to see it because it's got some heavy hitter starts like Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, and Anne Hathaway.  The problem is that I have absolutely no clue what it is about, and I don't want to spoil it by having someone tell me.  So I've watched the trailer several times and I've come up with my own basic plot.  Watch the trailer, then compare notes with me.

Ok, so first off Hugh Jackman plays some dude who was enslaved or imprisoned or something in France.  But it looks like he somehow had a change of fortune and turned his life around because he's dressed all fancy.  He also finds some homeless girl and takes her in.  Looks like she grows up, falls in love with some dude part of the revolution, blah blah blah.  I'm just freestyling here..  Who's the brunette younger girl?  I have no idea.

Russell Crowe plays some military guy around the time of the French revolution and somehow is connected to Hugh Jackman's character.  But judging by the staring back and forth, and Jackman returning to the shadows, they somewhere become enemies.

Anne Hathaway plays a factory worker that is somehow shamed and forced into the streets.  Weirdly dressed ladies shun her from a building.  Her life is hell. The ladies look like they spilled over from the musical "Cats."  And what's with all the people coming in and out of windows?  Oh right, it's a musical... That's what they do.

So that's what I got from the trailer.  And I had to watch it 3 times to come up with that.  I think the producers are assuming that anyone that would watch this movie already would know the plot.

I did ask my wife what the story was about but she said she fell asleep during it and couldn't remember.  Thanks honey, boy we are a sophisticated couple.
