Toby Keith’s Golf Classic Raises Nearly $1 Million

Toby Keith devoted a full weekend to his 11th annual Toby Keith & Friends Golf Classic, and his efforts paid off, literally. The event raised $950,000, benefiting pediatric cancer patients and their families.

The golf classic took place May 16-17, and included a golf tournament with 44 participating teams, dinner, musical event, and silent action. 800 guests attended the event, and top bids included $52,000 for dinner with Keith at the OK Kids Korral, a $37,500 bull elk hunt at Express UU Bar Ranch, $35,000 toward an Arnold Palmer/Jack Nicklaus Memorabilia piece, and a Toby Keith Behind the Scenes Experience for $30,000.

All proceeds from the event benefit the Toby Keith Foundation, whose mission seeks to encourage the health and happiness of pediatric cancer patients, primarily through its work with the OK Kids Korral — a cost-free, comfortable, and hopeful home for patients and their families seeking treatment at the Children’s Hospital at OU Medical Center. Keith likens the state-of-the-art facility to “Ritz Carlton meets Disney World.”

The ‘Drinks After Work’ singer is notably proud about the OK Kids Korral, which opened November 2013. “It was a calling by God for me,” the country superstar says. “I’ve got my foundation, I’ve raised money, now what am I going to do with it. You need a calling, you know? This place was built with that kind of love.”

Keith is staying busy this summer, and may not have much time to hit the greens. He’s releasing ‘Five Rounds,’ which features album releases from 2008-2012, on June 11 and is currently touring on his Shut Up and Hold On Tour, which kicked off May 25.
