This week, a third grader sauntered home with a loaded Taurus 9mm gun in his backpack and showed it off to his mom.

As it turns out, he bought the weapon from a classmate for $3 at their elementary school in Queens, NY.

Naturally, the mom flipped out and rushed the gun back to the school, who then reported the incident to police. According to the boy who purchased the gun, he thought he was buying a toy.

Both the 8-year-old who sold the gun and his father are being charged with criminal possession of a weapon. The boy will be released to a family member until his case is heard in court. NBC New York says the father who owned the 9mm will remain in custody and will be arraigned today.
