Many of us are looking forward to the long weekend ahead.  Some are camping, some are opening up the cabin for the summer and some are planning on staying home, sleeping in and picnicking.  However, the weekend leads to an important day, Memorial Day Monday.    Make your plans with your family to attend the Memorial Day Parade and Veteran's Memorial Ceremony to honor our Veterans.

MEMORIAL DAY PARADE

The parade in West Duluth will be held on Monday May 26th, starting at 12:30p.

Here's what you need to know about street closure and parking restriction:

The parade units will line up on 59th Avenue West between Raleigh Street and Grand Avenue beginning at 10:30 a.m. The parade begins at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Parade Route: Starting at 59th Avenue West & Grand Avenue, traveling East on Grand Avenue to 46th Avenue West, north on 46th Avenue West to 5th Street where the parade will disband near Denfeld High School.  The parade units will use all of Grand Avenue from 59th Avenue West to 46th Avenue West.

  • -All traffic will be detoured off of Grand Avenue during the parade between 59th Avenue West and 46th Avenue West starting at 12:00 p.m. Eastbound traffic on Grand Avenue will be detoured North on 59th Avenue West to 8th Street. Westbound Grand Avenue traffic will be detoured south on 46th Ave West to Mike Colalillo Drive and I-35. Traffic below Grand Avenue will use Raleigh Street and Mike Colalillo Drive, and traffic above Grand Avenue will use Eighth Street.
  • -All avenues and exits onto Grand between 59 Avenue West and 46th Avenue West will be closed during the Parade.
  • -59th Ave West will be blocked from Grand Avenue to Raleigh Street for the Parade line-up area starting at 10:30.

No parking will be allowed on either side of Grand Avenue along the parade route. "No Parking" signs will be posted along this route. Vehicles in violation will be tagged and towed. Motorists should be alert to detours and officers directing traffic.

VETERAN'S MEMORIAL CEREMONY

The Gary/New Duluth Veteran's Memorial Ceremony will be held on Monday May 26 at 9:00a.  Please note that:   Stowe Street between Commonwealth Avenue and 101st Avenue West will be closed to traffic for this event, from 7:00 am - 11:00 am.

Motorists are urged to drive with caution in the area, and watch for barricades and pedestrians.
