Earlier in Fall we told you of local coat drives, the Salvation Army was asking for yarn and people who knew how to knit and the firefighters actually slept outside to raise money to buy warm jackets.  The need in the Northland continues and the state of Wisconsin has started "The Big Bundle Up".

The other day I was driving through the neighborhood and slowed down because I saw kids ahead playing (sorta close to the road), but that's not what this blog is about.  It's about the fact that they were inappropriately dress for the temperature outside.  I immediately thought, "where is your jacket and get some mittens on", then I realized they might not have access to warm weather wear.  Sad.

In September and October we're on it.  The community starts coat and warm winter weather drives, but then what?  The state of Wisconsin is in their fourth year of collecting these items and choose to do it a bit later than the rest.  It helps to meet the need later in the year and often times when kids are growing like weeds, they can outgrow something they may have gotten just a couple months prior.

You can bring more than just coats, they are looking for donations of sweaters, hats, mittens and other warm clothing items for Wisconsin families.  Look for a box that is at the Superior-Douglas County Welcome Center located inside the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center 305 Harborview Parkway in Superior.  The plan is to collect as many items as possible Tuesdays-Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Nov. 25, 2012 to Jan. 2, 2015, then bring the items to the Harbor House Crisis Shelters.

Embrace the spirit of giving this season and please be generous.  It will most definitely help families in your community and will do your heart good :)
