The 22nd Annual Apostle Islands Sled Dog Race Kicks Off This Weekend

The John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon is underway and if you want to watch the thrill of the start of another sled dog race, you'll want to head to Bayfield this weekend.

The Apostle Islands Sled Dog Race takes place this Saturday, February 4 and Sunday, February 5.

Races begin at 10 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday at the Echo Valley Gravel Pit, which is located 11 miles north of downtown Bayfield on Highway 13.  Race organizers say that this location serves as both the start and finish line for the race and is an excellent place to cheer the teams on as they head out on to the trail.

There is one additional spectator site along the course, which follows the Sand River Trail System of Bayfield County. The spectator site is located on Star Route Road, and will feature a warming fire, a porta-potty and a viewing area.

The public is also invited to enjoy the bonfire, warming tent, merchandise sales and concessions at the Echo Valley Gravel Pit.
