I know, I know, I can't stop talking about the Garth Brooks concert last weekend.  While that WAS an awesome concert, there was a part that brought sadness to this old timer.  This past weekend I was cleaning and organizing a box of pictures when I ran across my Garth Brooks concert ticket from 1998.  Think about it, this piece of memorabilia is a thing of the past.

I brought this up on facebook to my friend Dave and he agreed.  All he had from Garth's 6th concert he attended was a piece of paper with a bar code.  He said he would have liked to have a ticket stub that he could frame with a picture of the people he was at the concert with as a way to preserve his memories.

I have a collection of ticket stubs all tied to memories, some fantastic, some not so great, but none-the-less, just looking at the ticket stub brings back a flood of memories.  People now days have papers with bar codes that are thrown away after they get through the venue door.  Some don't even have that, instead they chose to show their paid ticket electronically on their phone.

It's even changed how we "get" our seats.  Instead of waiting in line at the ticket window, we sit at our desk (usually at work) and watch the hour glass spin while it tells us to "be patient" because you're "next in line".  I watched that hour glass for over an hour to get my Garth tickets.   While I ALSO kept dialing the phone and getting a busy signal.  Remember when a big artist was coming to town we would SLEEP in line for days to hold our spot having friends and family bring us food and necessities, or tag team with us so we could get a break. Ah, memories!

Although, to technologies credit, we no longer have to sneak a camera in and at one time taking video was nearly impossible.  Now we can take both in the palm of our hand and share our experience within seconds with the world.

What do you think? No biggie or are you bummed that technology has changed something so cool as owning a ticket stub with the name, date and venue of the concert so you could show your friends to prove you were there?
