Today is the day that Epic procrastinators hope for, an extension. The IRS extended tax day to Wednesday, April 18th.

According to a USA Today report, last-minute filers get even more time after so many people tried to e-file that it overwhelmed the IRS system and crashed the website, causing it to go down for much of the day on April 17th.

People trying to pay their taxes were given this message: "This service is temporarily unavailable. We are working to resolve the issue. Please come back later and try again, or you can visit the Make a Payment page for alternative payment methods. We apologize for any inconvenience."

The IRS advised taxpayers to continue to file their taxes as normal if you should need an extension for 6 months, you can visit https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/extension-of-time-to-file-your-tax-return.

According to the IRS website, it said taxpayers are given another day because of the technical malfunction and it won’t negatively affect taxpayers who are trying to finish up their taxes.
