How Will Fitgers 5k Impact Traffic Saturday Morning? Here Are The Details

Saturday, April 21st is the 23rd annual Fitgers 5k in downtown Duluth. This year there are a record 1,848 registered participants set to run and walk in the morning race. The Fitgers 5k is one of the first spring road races in the Northland, and a race I enjoy running in despite the hills of the bridge over the freeway. This race is also the largest fundraising event for the Young Athletes Foundation, a Grandma's Marathon program focused on the promotion and development of youth athletics in a five-county region.

The race starts at 9am at Fitgers, 600 East Superior Street, where it will also finish. Expect traffic delays from 8:30am to to 10am along the race course.

The weather forecast for this Saturday, April 16, is calling for cold temps and snow. Not exactly ideal for the 22nd Annual Fitger's 5K Run/Walk, but the race, like the postal service, will go on despite the weather.....unless there's lightning. There is a record 1, 739 participants this year, a few wanting to be in the top 10, but most using this as training for Grandma's Marathon or the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon coming up in June. Here's all the information you need to know about the race, including road closures.
