The St. Louis River Experience gives free boating and nature experiences to many groups of people.  Seniors, veterans, people with special needs and youth.  They are a non-profit organization that makes these experiences free of charge.  The season is about to start and they are looking for volunteers to help make this possible.

Soon we'll be strolling through the beautiful Rose Garden in the City of Duluth near Lake Superior, without a jacket on.  The weather is getting warmer this weekend and you can feel the anticipation in the Northland.  Of course, to reap the benefits of the rose garden's beauty, the hard work has to start now and you're help is needed.

I was shocked to receive word of the critical need for volunteers at Empty Bowl because I have usually had to fight (in a good way) my way onto the line to serve soup.  However, the volunteers they are looking for are needed before the date of the event, can you or someone you know help?

How exciting for the Twin Cities Salvation Army, they received a HUGE donation in one of their red kettles.  It was one of the largest donations ever made and the donors wanted to remain anonymous.  The check was dropped in a Cub Foods red kettle on Thanksgiving weekend.

You may have noticed that the Salvation Army Red Kettles are out in the Twin Ports.  I always try to make sure I have dollar bills in my pocket so whenever I pass a red kettle I can drop on or two in, I know the bell ringer is appreciative.  Obviously they are giving of their time and energy in hopes they have a full red kettle at the end of their volunteer shift.  In Hibbing, the red kettle stand

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped with the tipping of the roses last Tuesday.  A second volunteer session was scheduled for tomorrow, however the wet weather has changed those plans with the City of Duluth.

According to their website Bentleyville is America's largest FREE walk through lighting display.  How awesome that something SO cool is right here in the Northland.  It all started with Nathan Bentley in 2001.  The phenomenon has since moved to Bayfront Park and exists with the help of several community volunteers.

Growing up in the small town of Wrenshall,  I am very aware of how important our volunteer fire fighters and EMS crews are.  Most people, especially in the bigger cities pick up the phone to dial 911 and expect help to arrive.  Small town folk do too, but we know that we may see a friend, relative or a neighbor lending a hand to help fight a fire or save a life.

I should really look into volunteering when it comes to gardening.  I might learn something.  I even had an air fern that died in my house.  HOW does THAT happen?  Don't they only need air?  The University of Wisconsin Extension Program is looking for volunteers to help with their Catlin Green Garden Prep Day, can you lend some time and talents?

The weather has definitely been cooperating and it feels like Spring has sprung.   Bentleyville is thought of in the Fall for set up and of course, the winter while all enjoy.  However, now is a much more comfortable time to do maintenance and volunteers are need to do display repair, can you help?

The weather this past year cooperated for families to get out and enjoy Bentleyville early!  I remember driving on I-35 and seeing HUGE back-ups on near Bentleyville.  I always thought there was a UMD hockey game or symphony performance and it was just the mass of people looking to enjoy the work of hundreds of volunteers making Bentleyville possible.
