Can You Sew? CHUM’S Rhubarb Festival Needs Your Talents
I wish I could sew.  I did not make my Wrenshall School Home Economics teacher, Mrs. Urbanski proud.  I spent more time ripping than I did sewing.  I should have the skills, my grandmother could sew anything and without a pattern!  CHUM has a huge community event every year and are in need of a volunteer that can sew.  Is that you?

It truly is rewarding to give time and energy to a non-profit in our Community and there are several to choose from.    According to their website Chum provides basic needs services for homeless and marginalized members of our community while working to effect changes which will eliminate the need for our services. Can you enhance their efforts?

Hit By The Christmas Spirit? Ring Bell For The Salvation Army Red Kettle Program
I started ringing bell (or shaking maracas) years ago.  When my daughter Kylee was old enough she rang with me.  It's a great opportunity for family time while teaching your kids the spirit of donating and sharing your time and energy.  As she grew older we morphed to wrapping gifts at the Salvation Army Gift Wrap booth at the mall.  If you just haven't had time to sign up or recently decided you

While many people in the Northland have already donated their time to ring bells for the Salvation Army, there is still a very large need for people. According to their press release, the Duluth Salvation Army has nearly 800 two-hour shifts available and if volunteers do not step forward, the kettle locations will sit empty.  Therefore, they have decided to sweeten the deal to get more volunteers.

When I have been out shopping in the Northland the past couple of weeks I've noticed several of the Salvation Army's Red Kettles in place, but stand alone, without a bell ringer.  There's no attention-getting sound or someone with a "Happy Holidays" to draw attention or entice you to drop in your change or a spare buck or two.  This may be one reason they are falling short of their 2014

Thanksgiving Day Buffet Celebrates 25th Anniversary With #Give25More
I have had the honor of being on the Thanksgiving Day Buffet committee for 17 of the 25 years of it's existence. It started back in 1989 in Superior and has since moved to the DECC and serves 6,500 delicious meals.  It takes hundreds of volunteers to make it happen and on this historic year we're asking for 25 more.  I'll explain....
