2 weeks ago It's been almost a year since the horrendous flooding in our area last June and recovery efforts continue. May is Arbor Month and May 15th will be Arbor Day in Duluth. This year the focus will be planting seedlings and trees to aid in the flood recovery as we continue to rebuild in the Northland.
2 weeks ago First, I have to say that this is not causing any issues between me and my two neighbors. In fact, it was discussed last summer and hasn't been brought up again. However, with summer approaching, it might. It's a dilemma and I just want to make everyone happy, but that would be impossible. So, HELP! Here's the story:
July 9, 2012 I thought, "Now I've heard of everything!" But, there is some logic in taking tree inventory. The information gathered will be used to determine our species diversity, age diversity of the trees, calculate benefits of our urban forest, such as lbs. of carbon sequestered, and the number of gallons of storm water runoff avoided because of the trees, which amounts to more than a million gallons a year. The collected information will also be used to determine where the City can plant more trees in the future.
October 19, 2011 Congratulations to Mr. Paul David, Kindergarten Instructor at Harriet Beecher Stowe Elementary School. They are the recipient of B105's first maurices $200 grant for Service Learning.
The kids have learned why trees are vital to the environment and will plant their seedling trees today! I think it's fantastic that kids this age are learning about the ecosystem and Carbon Cycle. Here's more on this Service Learning Project.
