Father’s Day Shortchanged? Humble History, Fewer Gifts But Dads Are Fine With It Even As The Trends Change

Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there!  Being a dad has been beyond rewarding for me so far, even if our day doesn't quite get the attention it deserves.

 
Father's Day traditionally takes a backseat to Mother's Day, and, for the most part, dads are cool with that, experts say.

Nevertheless, as traditional roles around the house gradually change, fathers are gaining more attention on their special day, at least as measured in the monetary value of Father's Day gifts estimated to be given on June 19, 2011, when the holiday will be celebrated in dozens of countries.

First celebrated 101 years ago, Father's Day was, in a way, born of Mother's Day.

I have seen that Mother's Day spending could be up as much as 16% this year, which is not only a good sign for the economy but also for all the sweet moms out there!

Mother’s Day is a popular spring holiday in the U.S., a time when families get together and honor mom with cards, flowers and gifts. It is also big business, one of the biggest weekends for retail sales. After several years of stagnant sales, retailers have seen signs of growth in the last two quarters.
