Duluth Police Warn of Wire Transfer Scams

Be Wary Of Phone Scam Where Caller Claims To Be Microsoft and Says Your Computer Has a Virus

The Cloquet Police Department has received several similar complaints this week from residents reporting they received calls from people claiming to be from "Microsoft" and told the residents their computers have viruses on them and they needed to fix them. New Trick To Get Around Do Not Call Lists, Watch Out!

A new phone campaign called "Political Opinions of America" offers a three-question "poll," and then offers a reward that sounds suspiciously like a classic timeshare sales pitch. After answering political questions, the person is transferred to a live operator from "corporate travel services" who is giving away free cruises thanks to an anonymous donor. Some say it is a scam.

Verizon Wireless alerted the Superior Police Department about a string of malicious e-mails targeting people and businesses.

The e-mail is well crafted, and says, "You're $900 bill is ready for payment."
