Registration for the June 22 running of Grandma's Marathon will remain open for an extra week. This extension now gives runners through Friday, June 7 to join the field for the event’s 37th running.

Whether you're gearing up for Grandma's Marathon, or just running for fun, here's a fun 5k you can participate in soon.  It's the Cathedral School Panther 5k happening May 31st.  It's only $25 to enter and all proceeds benefit the Art and Spanish Programs at the school!

Grandma's Marathon is getting bigger and better all the time. I met with Bob Gustafson from Grandma's Marathon to talk about the Great Lakes Marathon Series. Something new to help our marathon here and others as well as raise awareness about and for the Great Lakes.

It's a fun summer tradition that generally has taken place on a warm evening, so with another winter storm headed our way I think it's a perfect time to announce that registration is now open for northern Minnesota’s oldest road race – the 42nd annual Park Point 5-Miler scheduled for Friday, July 19.

The North Shore Striders have been on hiatus, but they are back and better than ever, offering something for all ages. Before I went for my evening run last night, I read through the latest developments from the FBI and learned of the many heroes that weren't expecting that title on what was to be a day at the Boston Marathon.  As our thoughts continue to be with those that were affected physically and emotionally by the Boston Marathon bombings, many area runners are preparing for the Fitger's 5K, this Saturday. 

St. Jude is the newest charity partner of Grandma's Marathon and the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon.  Make the decision now to be a St. Jude Hero.  It will guarantee that you have a bib number the day of Grandma's Marathon, for either the full or the half! Every year, as you stand on the sidewalk watching the runners race by you, you think, NEXT year, I'm doing this!  After all, you have a whole year to train, (for a mile), right?  Time to get yourself signed up for the Minnesota Mile!!...

Dr. Nancy I. English was and still is  loved by many.  Those "many" share a tribute to her every year with a Memorial 5k Walk/Run.  Money raised at the event is used for scholarships to women studying in the medical field at UMD.  If you want to participate in the event, you can still sign up  the day of the race.
