It's a fun summer tradition that generally has taken place on a warm evening, so with another winter storm headed our way I think it's a perfect time to announce that registration is now open for northern Minnesota’s oldest road race – the 42nd annual Park Point 5-Miler scheduled for Friday, July 19.
The North Shore Striders have been on hiatus, but they are back and better than ever, offering something for all ages. Their next group run will be dedicated to the those affected in the Boston Bombings. You're invited, here are the details in the group run and more on the North Shore Striders, the founding group of Grandma's Marathon in 1977 and included members like Duluthian Garry Bjorklund, a 1976 10,000 meter Olympian and two-time Grandma’s Marathon champion!
Before I went for my evening run last night, I read through the latest developments from the FBI and learned of the many heroes that weren't expecting that title on what was to be a day at the Boston Marathon. As our thoughts continue to be with those that were affected physically and emotionally by the Boston Marathon bombings, many area runners are preparing for the Fitger's 5K, this Saturday. Every year the Duluth Police Department provides a traffic advisory and I would wanted to share that with you to help plan the best route for your travel that day.
St. Jude is the newest charity partner of Grandma's Marathon and the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon. Make the decision now to be a St. Jude Hero. It will guarantee that you have a bib number the day of Grandma's Marathon, for either the full or the half! You can even choose to be part of B105's team!! On behalf of the kids of St. Jude, thank you!
Start the New Year off right! Knowing that you have lodging guaranteed for Grandma's Marathon 2013. How is the training going? I know, I'm in the same boat! It's hard to train in the cold temps and keeping your footing in the snow is difficult. But, one thing you can ease, is your mind and wondering where you, friend or family are going to stay on the big weekend! Here's how:
If you're like most people, after eating your Thanksgiving meal, you are almost unable to drag your overstuffed body from the dining table to the couch. You feel stuffed, guilty and vow that you'll start your diet and lose weigh running around on Black Friday. How about doing a little running BEFORE you sit down to that meal feeling a bit more healthy and a little less guilty. Run the Gobble Gallop!
Dr. Nancy I. English was and still is loved by many. Those "many" share a tribute to her every year with a Memorial 5k Walk/Run. Money raised at the event is used for scholarships to women studying in the medical field at UMD. If you want to participate in the event, you can still sign up the day of the race.
The Young Athletes Foundation is starting up Wednesday Night At The Races tomorrow evening at Bayfront Festival Park. It's free for kids 14 and under! The race starts at 6pm, but parents and kids can come register starting at 5pm. It's a great time for the family, and it encourages physical activity in our children.
Whether you're involved with the Park Point 5 Miler or just in the area, this important Traffic Advisory from the Duluth Police Department will ensure the runners are safe and that you get to your destination on time. Here's the skinny:
