This was a surprising study I found today.  Modern news media including 24 hour news channels, internet news sites, etc cover the mass shootings and gun murders so extensively that we feel like gun violence is soaring out of control.  In reality, gun homicide is down 49% since it peaked in the mid 1990's.

Drivers who travel past the intersection of 4th Street and 21st Avenue East in Duluth during the winter months have grown accustomed to seeing snow sculptures in the yard of Harry Welty, who lives right on the corner of the two intersecting streets. In the 25 years Welty has been carving snow statues in his yard, none have been quite as meaningful as the one currently on display.

It has been an incredibly painful past several days for the country with the tragedy in Connecticut.  I don't think I've gone an entire day since the story broke without tearing up at some point.  I know I'm not alone as the rest of the Northland recently came together to pay tribute to the victims.
