The Minnesota Vikings used the first day of NFL free agency to add more talent to their defensive line. Just days after signing defensive end Everson Griffen to a new deal, they now have a new defensive tackle.
Speculation much of the 2013 NFL season was that it would be Jared Allen's last with the Minnesota Vikings. News broke late last week that the defensive end wouldn't fit in new coach Mike Zimmer's scheme, and now it is confirmed that he will not be returning to Minnesota for the 2014 season.
A source tells KSTP that Minnesota Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel has decided to void his contract for the upcoming NFL season, flexing an option that was written into the deal that he signed when joining the Vikings before the 2013 season.
The plug was pulled on the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome early Saturday morning (January 18, 2014) as crews allowed the roof to deflate in the demolition process that will lead up to a new stadium for the Minnesota Vikings.
Since being constructed in 1981, the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome has deflated five times; most of which were caused by heavy snow. The sixth, and final deflation of the 'Dome' will come on purpose Saturday, January 18.
Cincinnati Bengals Defensive Coordinator Mike Zimmer has been the frontrunner among candidates for the vacancy at head coach left when the Minnesota Vikings fired Leslie Frazier at the end of the regular season. Following a second interview yesterday (Tuesday, January 14), a deal appears to be in the works.
The day started out grand! We were heading to the MOA field, the Metrodome to pick up our Viking's Season Ticket seats we had owned for the past 26 years. Who knew the adventure that lay ahead would be SUCH a fiasco? However, the extra time did allow me to take some great video of the Metrodome destruction. Check out the amazing destruction in this "last look" video before it's demolished forever.
Photo: Cathy KatesAfter the last Vikings game at the Metrodome on December 29, 2013, I came back to work and said the fans on that historic day were docile. So quiet through most of the game and couldn't figure it out. We thought it was because people wanted to "say" they were at the last game...now get it over with. But after watching this viral video, it hit me! (and I was guilty too)
