Hunting

This last weekend was the warmest weather I've ever experienced on a Minnesota Firearm Deer Opener.  It was 70 degrees in my deer stand near Cook, MN.  I experienced some random unexpected things I thought I'd share with you.

Deer season is getting close, and as we are getting our licenses and gear ready to go, it's time to reflect back on some of our best stories from deer camp.  Share your stories with us, and we'll feature them on the radio leading up to deer season.

When it's hunting season, you may find yourself struggling to find places to hunt or even just finding wildlife management areas where you can enjoy nature.  The Minnesota DNR hopes their new online tool will help everyone find what they're looking for.

It's Youth Waterfowl Day on Saturday, September 10, which is a great opportunity for young Minnesota hunters, ages 15 and younger.

As many people across the Northland know, hunting isn't just for the boys.  The Minnesota DNR has a terrific opportunity for women to learn necessary hunting skills.

There are 126 permits available for the upcoming Minnesota prairie chicken hunting season and interested hunters can can apply now to be included in the permit lottery.

Starting in under a month, Wisconsin anglers and hunters will no longer have to carry a paper license on them.

Our friends at WDIO reported that the WI State Senate has voted to delay the wolf hunt.  But, if you don't read more into the story, you'll lose a lot of information about what is actually going on.

Wisconsin Assembly Republicans are looking to eliminate the minimum hunting age requirement.  As of now, children who are 10 or older can hunt with a mentor, sharing one weapon.   Representative Joel Kleefish wants to do away with that, allowing both the hunter and mentor to have a weapon.

"Well, now what do we do?" my friend Nate asked as we looked at his buck lying in front of us.  "You want to do it?" I replied.  "I don't really know where to start," he answered.  "Well, I know HOW to do it, I just never have..."  This was our conversation last Sunday evening as the sun started to set at we knew we needed to field dress this buck and get it

A parody song 'Pretty Bad At Hunting Deer' is a song I can definitely relate to.  There's a couple of things I've learned about myself as I grow older.  I'm a pretty terrible hunter.  It's not that I'm a bad shot.  That's the easy part.  I'm a pretty good shot.  It's just I can't sit still long enough and wait for a deer to come by to take a shot.

Firearm opener is just weeks away, and the DNR is encouraging you to buy your licenses now to avoid any hold ups.  Just like anything for hunting season, you shouldn't wait until the last minute.
