Even in the face of extreme weather, our local emergency responders still have to go to work; and we thank them for their dedication.

If you're looking for a new career, a free event this week at Lake Superior College might just provide that spark you've been searching for.

Growing up in the small town of Wrenshall,  I am very aware of how important our volunteer fire fighters and EMS crews are.  Most people, especially in the bigger cities pick up the phone to dial 911 and expect help to arrive.  Small town folk do too, but we know that we may see a friend, relative or a neighbor lending a hand to help fight a fire or save a life.

This week, Duluth Firefighters Local 101 will be sleeping outside for 'Warm The Plaza', a terrific campaign to help children in the Northland.

Many of us have "filled the boot" in Duluth or Superior, either on the street corner, or at a parade. Wednesday,  it's Virginia's turn.  The International Association of Fire Fighters Local #390 will be waiting for you and your donation in the 58th Annual event.  Yes, 58th ANNUAL!
