Wild Twin Ports Weather: 5 Tornadoes That Have Touched Down in the Duluth / Superior Area

Severe weather season is here, and we're bound to see our fair share of thunderstorms through the course of the summer. Maybe it's the big hill "shielding us", maybe it's being "up north" and away from what we think of as tornado country, or maybe it's the giant lake on our doorstep. While rare, these dangerous summer phenomenon do appear in our area from time to time.

A Hong Kong Ships Maiden Voyage Ends In Duluth Early Saturday Morning

Whether you're an early riser or want to stay up late, it may be fun to be in Canal Park in the wee hours of Saturday morning, most likely before sunrise.  Then you can witness the arrival of a newly christened oceangoing vessel, the Clipper Gemini.  Having Duluth end up a port of call on a ship's maiden voyage is unique, especially when that maiden voyage originated in Hong Kong!

Lenay Showed Us Duluth, But Where Is She Now?

So, I go to YouTube and type in Duluth, MN.  I was looking for some fun old ads to share of the Northland, but the first video that appeared was 'Lenay gives a tour of Duluth,MN'.  The video was uploaded over 5 years ago when, according to the video, she was a college student.  The video is shot with pretty good quality with some editing.  Watching this made me want to put us on a mission:  find out where Lenay is today!

This is most certainly good news for Duluth and the employees who work at the local processing center.  Sen. Al Franken sees the craziness in having mail sent from one local address to another having to be processed in St. Paul.  Let's hope our local processing center is never targeted again to be closed.

Online Forum Helps With Smelt Fishing Report

Today my co-host Cathy Kates was asking me when the smelt run happens.  Not because she likes smelt, but it's a local hobby people do this time of year.  We're already hearing of smelt fry's at local churches starting, so is the smelt run in full swing.  Luckily, I've found a great online resource.
