Lenay Showed Us Duluth, But Where Is She Now?

So, I go to YouTube and type in Duluth, MN.  I was looking for some fun old ads to share of the Northland, but the first video that appeared was 'Lenay gives a tour of Duluth,MN'.  The video was uploaded over 5 years ago when, according to the video, she was a college student.  The video is shot with pretty good quality with some editing.  Watching this made me want to put us on a mission:  find out where Lenay is today!

Senate Vote Might Save Mail Processing Center In Duluth

This is most certainly good news for Duluth and the employees who work at the local processing center.  Sen. Al Franken sees the craziness in having mail sent from one local address to another having to be processed in St. Paul.  Let's hope our local processing center is never targeted again to be closed.

When Is The Park Point 5-Miler? Here Are Details With A Link Provided To Register

Registration is now open for northern Minnesota's oldest road race - the Park Point 5-Miler.  This years race is the evening of July 20th.  If you're already training for Grandmas Marathon weekend, run 5k's or want to make this a first organized run, I think you should totally go for it. It's a nice Friday evening and even though it's been warm and humid the past several years, there are friendly Park Point residents there to cheer you on and spray you with a hose.

Duluth Lands Aviation Jobs With AAR Agreement

We knew Duluth was on the short list of cities that could get this opportunity.  Now we have confirmation that hiring could start as early as summer if all goes well.  Congratulations to all involved in the process and hopefully this helps create momentum in the Northland economy.

Online Forum Helps With Smelt Fishing Report

Today my co-host Cathy Kates was asking me when the smelt run happens.  Not because she likes smelt, but it's a local hobby people do this time of year.  We're already hearing of smelt fry's at local churches starting, so is the smelt run in full swing.  Luckily, I've found a great online resource.

Walk To End SIDS This Saturday At Miller Hill Mall

The walk is fast approaching, this Saturday at the Miller Hill Mall.  It's not too late to start getting donations.  The walk goes from 7:00am - 9:30am with a minimum of a $5 donation.  There will also be a raffle and silent auction.

SIDS is so very scary because there is no clear answer as to what causes this tragedy.  I remember when my kids were about to be born I would search for research on it.

Watch A 1970 Duluth TV Commerical Break [VIDEO]

So, I'm looking around at vintage electronics online and it somehow leads me to this video.  This is an actual Duluth television commercial break from 1970 and wait until you see the electronics in a couple of the ads, which appear to be locally produced which only ads to the fun.  Not only that but I'm pretty sure the music in the Target ad is what is played in elevators in hell.  Nothing can top the wig commercial though.  Wait until you see these things!  Enjoy this trip into the past. Do you remember any of these?

New Office Furniture For 10 Duluth City Workers: $90,000

I can see why this is drawing criticism since Duluth has been in such a penny-pinch mode as of late to get back on track.   I agree that people need good working spaces, but perhaps this could have been introduced in a better way to avoid instant backlash.  Where there bids to get average prices from multiple vendors?  Before you present such things, especially in politics, you have to be prepared for those who will push back.

Big Weekend Storm Possible

It may not exactly be the Mega Storm, but compared to the tame winter we've had this could provide some fun.  I may actually get to use my snow blower!  It's always easier to get snow this time of year than in the Fall because we know it won't be here for months on end.

A large area of low pressure coupled with a trough in the jetstream is prognosticated to sweep over the Northland into Sunday and Monday.
