Country Throwback

Grandma's Marathon is Saturday, so for my Country Throwback I thought I'd choose one of those songs that's great to hear out on the race course as it always seems to pump up both the runners and the spectators.

Country Fest gets underway one week from today in Cadott, Wisconsin, and the headliner is Dierks Bentley.  That's just one reason why I decided to pick Dierks for my Country Throwback. Dierks is also celebrating the release of his new album "Black" and we have a chance for you to win a trip to see him in California, as well as have a Disney adventure...

Memorial Day is approaching and while that means an extra day off for many people, we must remember the importance of the holiday.  On the day we formally remember and honor those who have paid the ultimate price serving our country, I think I've found a perfect Country Throwback song.

With Keith Urban coming to Duluth, I thought it would be the perfect time for my Country Throwback to remember his first U.S. single as a solo artist.  In 1991, Keith released his first solo album in Australia, which produced 4 singles.  Then he made the wise decision to take his talents to the United States.

May is Arbor Month, where we are to celebrate trees in all their glory, including the health benefits that they provide on a daily basis.  With trees in mind for my Country Throwback, I instantly thought of a number one hit from Alan Jackson.

The final days of April are upon us and May will be here Sunday.  Since April showers bring May flowers, I thought I would honor the smelly delights with my Country Throwback.

We're in the home stretch of April and, for some reason, my mind has wandered to 1987, my first year at UMD.  I had a good friend who loved Shenandoah and she would always make me listen to them whenever we hung out.

April 18 is the big tax deadline, and it's coming up fast.  If you got a refund this year, chances are you already filed.  However, if the tax man is coming collecting this year, you probably weren't in a big hurry.  My Country Throwback this week honors those who received no favors from the IRS this year.

My favorite sign of spring arrived this week with the return of baseball.  When it warms up, a perfect night is when I'm grilling while watching a Twins game.  In honor of America's pastime, my Country Throwback remembers an Alabama favorite.

I hope you remember what day it is this Friday.  If not, you may find yourself at the wrong end of a prank as it is once again April Fools Day.  In honor of this mischievous day, my mind went right to an early hit from Lee Ann Womack for my Country Throwback.

With Easter Sunday arriving this week, I thought it would be a great time to remember a song about a miracle with my Country Throwback.  This John Michael Montgomery song instantly came to mind.

What could make a mild week even better?  How about Daylight Saving this weekend so we can gain another hour of daylight on Sunday?  With that in mind, I did a little forward thinking for this week's Country Throwback.
