This is a pretty terrifying thought for those of us who commute over a bridge each day here in the Twin Ports.  There has been at least two instances in the last decade where a vehicle careened off a bridge and over the guard rail.

Bong Bridge maintenance began last week and, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the project is expected to continue through the next two weeks.

Spring cleaning doesn't just involve our houses and yards, it also pertains to Northland bridges.  Today marks the beginning of area bridge work, which will impact travel.

If you plan on taking the Bong Bridge on Wednesday, May 3, plan on slow travel as the Minnesota Department of Transportation has a regularly scheduled inspection set to begin at 9 a.m.

Things are a little different on the Superior side of the bridge.  If you're from Superior all of these will be very familiar.

For anyone that uses the Blatnik Bridge to travel between Duluth and Superior, you should look for an alternative route starting August 22. A scheduled repair project to the bridge is set to begin on Monday, August 22 that will have a significant impact on traffic into October.

It's something that has been a source of frustration several times this summer.  My husband and I would keep forgetting part of the Bong Bridge was closed and drive in that direction only to have to turn around (we eventually started laughing at ourselves, DUH!).  But tomorrow that frustration is over as the Bong Bridge is scheduled to re-open!
