It's National Bike to Work Day this Friday and the DTA is getting involved.  Now I understand the premise is to actually "bike to work", but with the hills in Duluth no one is going to jump on ya if you take the DTA back home, that hill after a long days work could be brutal.

When I got my first job at the Wrenshall School pool I rode my bike to work on a SUPER hilly, loose graveled Alcohol Road (yes, that is the actual name of the road).  Not because I was "green" or I enjoyed the exercise.  It was because my mom worked and if I wanted the job it was bike or walk.  Where was National Bike to Work Day then?

Bikes are being accepted today, Friday, April 22 until 7p or tomorrow, Saturday, April 23 from 8a-9:45a for the 10th Annual Continental Ski & Bike "Bike Swap".  This yearly event benefits the Head of the Lakes United Way.  Plus, the first 100 kids at the event receive a free bike helmet thanks to St. Luke's Hospital and Joe Golcz at State Farm Insurance!

You don't have to be a bicyclist to be interested or give input in the on-road bike lanes being proposed for city-wide implementation.  If you're an interested community member you also have the opportunity attend a meeting to review the information gathered this summer and hear the plan of the proposed bike lanes.
