At 8:46 a.m. on Tuesday, September 11, most national news outlets took a break from their regular programming to air a special "moment of silence" from New York City and Washington D.C. to honor the victims of 9/11. We say "most" because, as it turns out, not everyone was a participant. While FOX, CBS, ABC, CNBC and MSNBC went quiet at this time, which was the moment 11 years ago when the first plane hit the Twin Towers, NBC continued on with the 'Today' show, which just so happened to feature an interview with Kris Jenner of 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians.'

The terror attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 left an indelible mark on Americans. But even as the first responders climbed through the rubble in New York, Washington, DC and Pennsylvania, the country embarked on a “War on Terror.” With that war came years of conflict in Afghanistan and Iraq, indefinite detention of terror suspects without charges or trial, enhanced interrogation techniques, extraordinary rendition and the passage of the USA Patriot Act.

Ten years later, Americans are still wondering if it was wise to sacrifice some privacy and freedoms in order to fight terrorism.

The Northland Heroes Tribute Committee and the city of Duluth will mark the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with a call to stand together peacefully despite our differences and to reject violence, hate and divisiveness.

“This is a time to promote healing; to have a dialog of different cultures and diversities and acceptance of everyone in our community,” said committee member Verne Wagner.

Parents, if you are interested in making sure your teen is where they say they are....this is worth it AND it also has an emergency app that dials 911 and lets others know if you are in trouble.
