The Superior Spartans made their 12th trip to the Wisconsin Boys Hockey Tournament in the last 13 years, meeting the Verona Wildcats at Alliant Energy Center in Madison Thursday. The Spartans have had an up and down 2013-2014 season, but maintained their strong reputation as a contender at the state tourney.

Philippe Fromberger got the scoring going for Verona late in the first period on a power play, and the Wildcats wouldn't look back; scoring two more unanswered goals in the second period. The game would ultimately end in a 0-3 shutout, but not for a lack of effort on the part of Superior. The Spartans outshot Verona 24-15, but Wildcats netminder Alex Jones repeatedly shut the door on Superior.
