UPDATE - 6:00 am Friday: Evacuation order for Superior lifted. Mayor Paine made announcement via social media early Friday morning.

UPDATE - 10:00 pm Thursday: The fire is contained, but hotspots are still creating smoke. Officials are still maintaining this mandatory evacuation until further notice for the area described below. Officials are monitoring the air quality situation and re-assessing the evacuation order regularly, and will update the public when the order is cancelled.

The City of Duluth and St. Louis County officials have issued a Shelter in Place Advisory for the western portion of Duluth. Authorities say this is a precautionary measure based on the National Weather Services information that winds overnight may shift some of the smoke in the direction of the following areas.

The advisory applies to the Fond du Lac neighborhood east to the Ore Docks in West Duluth, to the top of the hill.

These residents are being told to minimize exposure overnight Thursday by avoiding being outdoors, being sure windows and doors are closed, and HVAC systems that intake outdoor air are off. Wind shifts overnight could push some smoke into this area overnight, which prompted this message.

The thick, black smoke from the Husky Refinery fire in Superior has prompted an evacuation order from the Douglas County Sheriff's Department. Here is the latest information and a map:
