I've been broadcasting now for over a decade.  Wow, that's longer than I thought I'd ever stick with ANY career.  Anyway, over the years I've learned that this job has a weird effect on my relationships with my family and friends.  A lot of them listen to me everyday, which I appreciate.  But it kinda has an interesting effect where they don't really need to check in with me.

Here's an example.  In your average friendship, you'll think "hey I haven't heard from Nate in a while, I should call to see how he's doing."  So you give him a call and you chat a bit, and everything is fine.  However my friends hear me all the time, so even on a subconscious level they don't think to pick up the phone and give me a call because they've already had a half a conversation with me.

This has even happened with my parents.  I'll call them up and say it's been a long time since we talked, and they are surprised to learn it's been a couple of weeks.

So, in short.  Make sure you say hi or something when you see me.  Friends, give me a call.
