Significant Snowfall in the Forecast to Usher in 2017
As we welcome in the new year, we may also be welcoming in another winter storm that could bring significant snowfall to Northern Minnesota / Wisconsin. A weather outlook from the National Weather Service Thursday states that there is a larger storm system that could impact the Northland Monday and Tuesday of next week.
There is “considerable uncertainty” about the track of this storm at this time. Forecast models have predicted anywhere from a few inches to over a foot of snow for the Duluth area, so it is easy to see where that uncertainty comes in. The outlook from the NWS does suggest that there is a potential to see 6 or more inches of snow somewhere in the Northland.
The key thing to be aware of is that regardless of how much we do get, the likelihood of at least some snow is looking probable, and travel conditions will deteriorate on Monday and Tuesday as a result. We will update this post as the forecast becomes more clear over the next couple days.
