First, I have to give credit to my friend Coleen and the website she found onegoodthingbyjillee.com.  Once you visit the website, you will feel that Jillee is your friend too!  The kind that has a solution for all your needs!  Coleen and I were visiting and she mentioned that she made her own laundry detergent.  She said her clothes were brighter and smelled wonderful.  She told me how long a batch lasts and I asked how much $$$ she saved.  I couldn't get over the savings and HAD to make it for myself.

I was scared to do this at first because I had never heard of Fels Naptha soap and didn't know if I wanted to mess with oxygen bleach.  But Coleen told she found everything at Wal-Mart and it was easy.  It seems like we're washing clothes constantly, so the thought of saving money in that department was sweet!  I hope you like it as much as we do!

Homemade Laundry Detergent-Trial Sized Version-by Jillee

  • 1 bar grated Fels Naptha soap
  • 3 C. Borax
  • 2 C. washing soda
  • 3/4 C. baking soda
  • 4 & 1/2 C. oxygen bleach
  • 1 C. (heaping) fabric softener crystals

Grate the bar of Fels Naptha using the small holes of a cheese grater, food processor or, in a powerful blender.  Add all the other ingredients in a large container, preferably one with a lid, because you will shake up this mixture until it's well blended.  That's it, you're done!

Jillee says this will amount to roughly 100 ounces of laundry detergent and you will have to experiment with how much you use, but the recommendation is only 2 Tablespoons per load.  If you try it, I want to know what you think....let me know!!!
