Ruby’s Pantry Will Distribute Food In Brookston On Thursday, February 4

Hunger is a problem in the Twin Ports and surrounding area, but there are several organizations that are doing their best to help Northland families put nutritious food on their tables for their family.  One is Ruby's Pantry and it's coming to Brookston.

I'm lucky enough to sit on the Thanksgiving Day Buffet Committee and the fact that our numbers continue to grow reminds me just how important these food distribution programs are.  Last Thanksgiving our numbers served increased another thousand.

Ruby's Pantry is a 501 C 3 non-profit corporation and America's rural food bank.  They procure and distribute corporate surplus food and goods to help fight poverty, hunger and disease in rural communities in the United States for those with low resources and in crisis through churches, food shelves and other local civic organizations.  People often wonder if Ruby actually existed.  According to the Ruby's Pantry website, she did.  Ruby called Western Wisconsin home for 89 years. She didn't have much, but what she did have, she shared with others.

Ruby's Pantry has been in Minnesota helping families stretch their food dollars for the past 13 years.  For a small donation you can go home with two bags of food.  Remember to bring a box or clothes basket so you can easily carry your food home.

Ruby's Pantry will be in the Brookston area at the Arrowhead Town Hall, 9798 U.S. 2 on Thursday February 4th, starting at 9:30am.  You can pre-register at the Ruby's Pantry website.
