Last Friday morning we learned that we had lost an iconic voice in country music.  A legend whose career spanned 5 decades.  Country Music Hall of Famer, George Jones had passed at age 81.  Since that morning, we have learned the cause of his death.

George had been hospitalized since April 18 with a fever and irregular blood pressure.  The cause of death was hypoxic respiratory failure.  It's a condition that occurs when there is too little oxygen present for the body to carry out its basic function.

It was an emotional day for many, fans and other country artists.  Alan Jackson plans on rescheduling two concerts so he can attend the funeral set for Thursday, May 2.  Several other friends and fellow artists of George said:

Vince Gill"There aren't words in our language to describe the depth of this greatness.  I'll miss my kind and generous friend."

Hank Williams Jr "Today is a sad day in Country music.  We have lost another piece of history.  George Jones was not only a good singer, but a good friend."

Ray Price"Sad day folks.  Today, with the passing of my good friend, George Jones, the door to an era in time is slowly closing.  With only a handful of us left standing, the country music I knew and loved has also passed away.  It is my great hope that the younger generation of singers will remember all of us from that time and carry on."

Dolly Parton: "My heart is absolutely broken.  George Jones was my all-time favorite singer and one of my favorite people in the world.  My heart goes out to Nancy and the rest of his family."

I thought I would find some vintage George Jones to share with you.  "White Lightning" was written by the Big Bopper (J.P. Richardson).  It was a song that went number one for George back in 1959.  RIP George, the voice of the Possum will live on with the B105 Solid Gold Saturday Show.
