It's true!  Pitino is coming to Minnesota!  Not legendary coach Rick Pitino, but the fruit of his loins.  Richard Pitino has reportedly committed to be the next Gophers basketball coach.

StarTribune.com's Amelia Rayno says that CBS Sports' Jeff Goodman, who broke the news that Tubby Smith was fired and is tight with Gophers' officials, is reporting that Minnesota has a verbal agreement in place with Richard Pitino to be the new head basketball coach. Pitino, the son of legendary head coach Rick Pitino, is 30 years old.

He had been an assistant for years not only for his dad but Florida's Billy Donovan before getting his first head coaching job last year at Florida International.  In that year they posted their first winning record since the 1999-2000 season.

If you've been following the saga of the Gophers trying to hire a new basketball coach, you'll know this wasn't their first choice.  However, it could be a great choice for a team that needs a great recruiter, teacher and high energy personality.  The word is that Richard Pitino is all of those things.
