Registration is now open for northern Minnesota’s oldest road race – the 43rd annual Park Point 5-Miler scheduled for Friday, July 18. This is terrific annual event that I've run many times over the years. All my memories of the race are that I had a great time and I it always seems to be nice and hot outside.
This years event begins at 5:30 p.m. with youth races for children 14 and under, followed by a two-mile walk at 6:15 p.m., and then the five-mile feature race at 6:30 p.m. The pre-registration entry fee for the five-mile run and two-mile walk is $25, while race-day registration is $35. The youth races are free.
Net proceeds from the Park Point 5-Miler benefit the Young Athletes Foundation (YAF), a Grandma’s Marathon program focused on the promotion and development of youth athletics throughout Carlton, Cook, Douglas (Wis.), Lake and St. Louis Counties. Since its inception in 1990, the YAF has contributed more than $600,000 to area nonprofit youth athletic organizations.
The Park Point 5-Miler is sponsored by Toyota, Sam’s Club, Green Mill, Anytime Fitness, Carlson Orthodontics, City of Duluth, Duluth News Tribune, Duluth Running Company, ESPN Radio 560 WEBC, Fitger’s, Great Clips, Great Harvest Bread Co., Integrity Health Network, KBJR 6 & Range 11, Kemps, maurices, Minnesota Pork Board, Minnesota Power, Old Dutch, St. Luke’s, Super One Foods, and Unum.
