Do you know someone that deserves recognition?  The American Red Cross is asking for nominations of people that  have performed extraordinary acts to save lives.  To often we don't take the time to thank these individuals, and sometimes, a mere  "thank you" doesn't seem like enough.  Take a minute of your day and make a difference in a life that made a difference by saving another.The American Red Cross Northern Minnesota Region, reaching from the southern metro area to the Canadian border, announces its call for Heroes Awards nominations. The Red Cross Heroes Awards recognize everyday people who perform extraordinary acts to further our life-saving mission.

Red Cross Heroes Awards winners will be honored at the 5th annual Heroes Breakfast, which will be held at Target Field in Minneapolis on May 24, 2012.

The Heroes Award categories include: Community, Disaster Relief, Emergency Medical Assistance, Fire Fighter, Give Life, Good Samaritan, Law Enforcement, Military, and Youth Good Samaritan. The deadline for nominations is January 31, 2012.

 

 

 

Previous Heroes recipients have included police officers who saved others when a semi-truck crashed and brought down live power lines onto a crowd; a young woman who, while struggling with cancer, offered a lasting wish to a family who had lost their son to the devastating disease; a stranger who helped children overcome fear and anxiety after they lost their home to a fire; a man who donated gallons of blood over his lifetime so that others were able to live; or a man who provided first aid to a cyclist hit by a car.
