Randy Travis won’t be spending any time behind bars, as long as he can adhere to the terms of his plea deal entered in regards to his misdemeanor assault case.

E! Online reports that the ‘Three Wooden Crosses’ singer will receive a 90-day deferred sentence as a direct result of a plea of either guilty or no contest. If Travis avoids any additional legal issues and complies to the terms of his probation during the three months, he will avoid a formal conviction and the case could be dismissed.

Travis was cited for assault last year following an Aug. 23 altercation with his fiancee’s estranged husband, Ritchie Beougher. The country superstar originally pleaded not guilty — even filing a civil suit claiming that Beougher provoked him in an effort to cause physical harm and embarrassment toward Travis.

Travis’ plea deal is not a quick fix to his legal troubles. Earlier this month, the singer was officially charged with DWI. New toxicology reports stemming from his 2011 arrest showed Travis’ blood alcohol content level was higher than 0.15, which would makes the charge a Class A misdemeanor. If convicted, Travis could find himself in jail for as long as two years and be fined up to $4,000.

According to his lawyer, Larry Friedman, Travis’ team is working to present a plea deal in the DWI case, as well. Friedman adds that he “expects a trouble free 2013 devoted to his very supportive fans and friends.”

As a means of starting with a clean slate, Travis has quit drinking.
