Randy Houser Opens Up About ‘Beautiful’ Beach Wedding and Being a ‘Natural’ at Marriage

Since his wedding last fall, Randy Houser can’t seem to wipe the smile off his face — not that he’s complaining. He has a lot to be smiling about, including his brand new baby boy, West Yantz Houser, born March 6. West is the first child for Houser and his lovely wife, Jessa Yantz, who wed in the Dominican Republic in September of last year. Houser has kept most of the wedding details to himself since the big day, but recently opened up to share details of his nuptials with us.

“It was a beautiful wedding,” Houser told Taste of Country a few weeks before his son’s birth. “We had it on a beach on our own, small little island with about 23 of our closest friends there. We really just wanted to keep it with our family and our closest friends.”

Of those friends were hit songwriters Dallas Davidson and his wife Sarah, as well as Rob Hatch, who Houser served as his ordain minister for when Hatch wed his wife Shannon. “Shannon is my best girlfriend, and Rob is my best friend, so I married them, and then he married us … Shannon was my best man,” Houser says with a laugh. “It was very unconventional, and we like it that way. We’re definitely not the norm. We had a good time. It was a beautiful wedding. My wife looked so gorgeous. It was amazing. When she walked out, my jaw dropped.”

In addition to writing their own vows, Houser serenaded his blushing bride following their “I dos.” “I sang ‘Have I Told You Lately That I Love You,’” the singer reveals. “It was pretty much off the cuff. I didn’t even really have it planned. I wrote my vows and said the things that I wanted to say to her, then I just broke out singing. It was pretty cool. It turned out great.”

Following the wedding, the Housers stayed put in paradise for a few extra days of relaxation — a much-needed honeymoon away from Nashville life. “We kind of included [our honeymoon] all in that [trip], which was cool,” says Houser. “We were there for three days with everybody, and then everybody left, and we stayed a little bit longer. It cut down on a lot of the travel and all that. We just sent everybody away [laughs]. We had a great time.”

But how has the transition into life as a husband been thus far? “It’s been pretty natural,” notes Houser. “I have to pick up my underwear and socks a little more [laughs], but other than that, it’s been really pretty easy.”
