Monday evening I first saw on Facebook that police were called about an attempted abduction of a 9 year old girl walking home from Great Lakes Elementary.  This was on someone's personal page and it was shared quite a few times.  The news didn't have anything on it at the time, and the police hadn't made a statement yet.  That was Monday evening.

Then, two days later, several news outlets in the Twin Ports reported on it.  Here are some questions that I'm a little frustrated about.

Why wasn't anything said immediately?

Regardless of where your child goes to school in the community, EVERY PARENT SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED.  If they really think this guy described as tall, with a black hoodie and black gloves would target just one specific school, they're crazy.  Northern Lights is just a few blocks from Great Lakes Elementary, there are day care facilites, parks, and plenty of places that kids go.  Everyone should have been made aware immediately.

Why isn't there an official statement on the school district website or Facebook page?

When it first was just a rumor I checked the School District Facebook page to see if there was any truth to it.  Then I checked their website.  4 days later at the time I'm writing this, there still isn't anything.

Why isn't there a press release on the Superior Police Department's Facebook page?

Whether you like it or not, Facebook is the fastest way to spread the word on something happening in the community.  When people are worried or scared, use your Facebook page to communicate with the community.

Is there a reason action wasn't taken sooner that we don't know of?

Is there a possibility that people may not believe this girl?  Is there concern it is a hoax?  Judging by the lack of quick response on this from the school and the police department, it appears on the outside that it isn't a huge concern.  What don't we know?

I've always been supportive of both the School and the Superior Police Department, but as a concerned parent who has children in the school district, I want to know what the real story is.
