Potentially Heavy Snow and Thundersnow to Hit Twin Ports Monday Night and Tuesday Morning
After breaking the April snowfall record by over 10 inches last week, it looks like we have the opportunity to see April 2013 down as an even bigger month in the category of snowfall with another major winter storm approaching the Duluth/Superior area.
This storm has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a winter storm warning for the Minnesota North Shore, East Central Minnesota, and Northwestern Wisconsin - effective 7 pm Monday night through noon Tuesday.
What to Expect
Monday Night: Snow will continue to pick up in intensity, accompanied by a North wind gusting up to 20 mph. Due to temperatures and the intensity of this storm, thundersnow is likely this evening. Snowfall is expected to be heavy at times, with rates of 1-2 inches per hour being possible at times. Overnight snowfall totals in the Twin Ports is expected to be 4-8 inches.
Tuesday: A continued chance of snow carries into the morning hours, with a trace to an inch possible on top of the snowfall from overnight. Daytime temperatures will reach to around 40 degrees.
