Christian Ponder continues to grow into his role as the quarterback of the future for the Minnesota Vikings, and his performance in the 24-13 win over the San Francisco 49ers included a few highlights such as his first NFL rushing touchdown. Here’s a rundown of of game notes and highlights from the game:

Christian Ponder’s 23-yard rushing touchdown was the first he’s scored as an NFL player. The length of this run is the 5th longest scoring run by a Vikings quarterback. The rundown of scoring rushes by Vikings quarterbacks goes as follows:

  1. Joe Webb  – 65 yards (12/11/2011 @Detroit)
  2. Fran Tarkenton – 52 yards (11/5/1961 @ Los Angeles)
  3. Daunte Culpepper – 33 yards (10/14/2001 vs. Detroit)
  4. Daunte Culpepper – 27 yards (10/9/2000 vs. Tampa Bay)
  5. Christian Ponder – 23 yards (9/23/2012 vs. San Francisco)

This same scoring play by Ponder is also the first rushing touchdown allowed by the 49ers in the 2012 season

Blair Walsh set a team record for most 50+ yard field goals after hitting his third in today’s game. He’s hit from 55, 51, and 52 consecutively. Walsh is also a perfect 7 for 7 on field goals through the regular season.

Kyle Rudolph tied a team record for most touchdowns in a game by a tight end, scoring two in this game. The first was in the first quarter from 1 yard out of the endzone in the first quarter and the second was from 2 yards out of the endzone in the fourth quarter.

Josh Robinson recorded his first interception of his NFL career.

The Vikings have now won 5 straight against the 49ers at the Metrodome. This brings their all-time series record to an even 22-22-1.
