Heads up for you downtown Duluth motorists.  They'll be closing Superior Street for a few hours on Thursday, December 1 (barring any weather issues) to place a crane for workers to perform a scheduled maintenance.  Here's what you need to know.

It's only a temporary closure of Superior Street so it will only be a short inconvenience to you.  They plan on closing Superior Street, west of 6th Avenue West, on Thursday, December 1st starting at 7:00 AM. The closure should be done by 2:00 PM.  They are placing a crane in front of Gateway Tower apartments for workers to perform scheduled maintenance.  If you don't drive, but walk in that area be aware that they will need to close the sidewalk in front of Gateway Tower too.

This is also where you gain access to Superior Street from I-35 northbound.  That will obviously be limited to the Michigan Street exit and access from West Superior Street by
the M&H gas station eastbound will be required to use the Mesaba Avenue exit.

That may cause back-ups or slow traffic in these areas during the temporary closure. The City of Duluth suggests that motorists plan for additional travel time or choose an alternative route.
