We ditched several inches of snow yesterday.  Good news for many, especially our road construction workers.  While they appreciate the work and we will eventually appreciate their work, it still means we need to slow down to keep them safe and find alternate routes to our destinations.  Here's what you need to know.

You may have noticed the construction starting today on First Street from Mesaba Avenue to Piedmont Avenue (approximately 17th Avenue West).  The detour will be continued to allow only east bound traffic. The west bound traffic lane and shoulder will be closed to facilitate the replacement of an 8” natural gas main.

The intersections of Glen Place, and 11 th Avenue West will remain open for east bound traveling traffic on 1st Street during this project. The traffic detour is expected to remain in effect until the beginning of August with brief closures occasionally to allow for reconnection of utilities crossing the street. After the utility replacements are completed later this summer, this segment of 1 st street is scheduled for a bituminous resurfacing where a separate road closure will be in effect for a shorter duration.

The City of Duluth apologizes for the inconvenience. For more information please contact Howard Smith, Project Engineer at 218-730-5092.
