Just in time for Halloween weekend, the owners of Nopeming Sanatorium in Duluth have announced a series of tours to satisfy the creepy curiosity of the public and help in the restoration of the facility.

The complex, which was built in 1912 to serve as a tuberculosis care center, has served a number of tenants since. Over the years, the facility has fallen into disrepair due to age, Mother Nature, and vandals sneaking onto the private property of the site.

To satisfy the curiosity of those who have always wanted to see firsthand what the building looks like, the owners will be offering a few different types of tours. The main tour of interest to most of the public is what owners are calling the "haunted tours", which will be held evenings from Friday night through Halloween night.

Some may remember tours offered previously that were shut down mid-event.  We inquired about this, and it turns out that those tours were done without the proper authority. These tours have been organized through the proper channels.

Tours start at 5:30 pm on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday night, with the last tour of the evening scheduled at 11:45 pm each night. These are walking tours that will last between 45 minutes to one hour. There is a lot of indoor and outdoor walking, so sturdy shoes are recommended. There is no heat or electricity in the building so plan on a coat and consider bringing a flashlight.

There are a limited number of tickets for these tours, and each tour will be limited to 15-20 people. Individual tickets are $25, and there are no refunds on ticket purchases. Tickets will not be available for sale on site, and must be purchased online via the organization's event page, which you can access by clicking here. All proceeds from the tickets will be used to restore the facility with the goal of making it a usable building for the public.

The owners are also offering historical tours of the facility for individuals interested in the history of the complex or for people that have personal ties to Nopeming. For more information about all tours or about the facility, you can visit their website here.
