When there is a crisis, the Red Cross is there to help regardless of where that crisis may be.  We are all well aware of the storm devastation in United States this week, and another Northland resident is off to lend a hand.

According to the Northland's NewsCenter, Susan Dettweiler from Brimson, Minnesota, will work to help staff the relief operation. John Schiefelbein of Ely was deployed on Saturday.

Thousands of people took refuge from Hurricane Sandy in American Red Cross shelters Monday night as the massive storm made land fall on the East Coast.

More deployments from Minnesota are likely as Red Cross officials learn more about the scope of the disaster and transportation to the areas becomes possible.
