Fresh off a national championship, there's rumors that the University of Minnesota-Duluth Men's Hockey head coach Scott Sandelin could be in the mix for the New York Rangers head coach position.

That's pretty big news. Darren Dreger is a very good source for these things in the hockey community. If he's putting the name out there, you can best believe that there is real interest.

It's easy to see why Sandelin's name could be in the running for the Rangers job. He's taken UMD to the next level during his tenure here. Two national championships in three trips to the championship game is a pretty great run in college hockey. He's well respected in hockey and sent numerous players to the NHL.

NHL teams dipping into the college pool for coaches is usually something that doesn't happen often. The only time that's happened recently is when the Philadelphia Flyers hired University of North Dakota's Dave Hakstol in the summer of 2015.
