We have a lot of trees in our yard, and every fall it amounts to about 35-40 bags of leaves.   That's a lot of leaves to get rid of.  It usually involves me loading them in my truck and trailer and bringing them to the dump.  It's a lot of crappy work.  But this year, I'm trying something new.  I'm going to just mulch the crap out of them.

This summer I had to buy a new mower, and I got a mulcher.  My neighbor suggested that instead of bagging all these leaves, just mow over them periodically as they fall down.  So I thought I'd try it.

Now, I had a lot of leaves already.  In fact you couldn't really see the grass underneath, but I thought I'd give it a try.

I think it worked remarkably well!  The only concern I have is there is some sticks in with the leaves.  It's a cottonwood tree so instead of just leaves coming off, there is usually some small twigs too.  I figure if I have to buy a new blade in the spring, big deal.  I'm saving a ton of work.

So if you're sick of bagging leaves, here's something to try!  And another note, my lawnmower could really use a choke.  It doesn't like running in under 40 degree weather.
