We've received word from the Minnesota Department of Transportation of the closing of Highway 61 approximately one mile west of Grand Marais to all vehicles but semitrailers due to flooding.

There is no word as to when it may reopen, so Highway 61 will remain closed until further notice. The State Patrol has detoured all other motor vehicles via Birch Road and Cook County Road 7 to Highway 61.

State officials believe that the flooding is due to a blocked drainage pipe east of Cutface.  Motorists are advised to drive with caution in the area and be alert for water over roads.

If you are in the area, or Highway 61 is in your Memorial weekend travel plans, you can check the status of this situation and all Minnesota roads via www.511mn.org .

Have a safe weekend!
