The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory much of the Northland and a winter storm warning for the North Shore for the first day of November for the Minnesota Arrowhead and Iron Range, including the Duluth area.

A winter storm watch was issued this morning, but updated forecast information has led the National Weather Service office in Duluth to change much of the area initially under a watch to a winter weather advisory, with the North Shore getting put under the winter storm warning, as it is expected to see the worst of the snow with this event.

Much of the area in the winter weather advisory is expected to see 2-4 inches of snow. The Duluth area could see 3-5 inches, with portions in the higher elevations of the eastern Duluth area seeing upwards of 6 inches. This is the southern tip of the area that extends along the shoreline up to the Canadian border, where snowfall could exceed 6 inches in the higher elevations. The area under the winter storm warning could see 3-5 inches of snowfall, with the higher elevations expecting 5-8 inches.

Snowfall is expected to start Wednesday morning, and continue to the early morning hours of Thursday, with the heaviest snow in the later parts of Wednesday. The afternoon commute may be particularly difficult due to snow-covered roads and reduced visibility. Plan ahead if you need to travel on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

As we learned with last week's storm, forecasted snowfall totals aren't always accurate, as slight changes in a storm can drastically change how much snow we get. We'll keep you posted on the latest.
