Minnesota Offers Free “Take a Kid Fishing” Weekend June 6-8, 2014

As part of an annual campaign to introduce youth to the great outdoors, the Minnesota DNR is offering an opportunity to take children fishing without the need to purchase a fishing license.

June 6-8, 2014 is Take a Kid Fishing weekend in Minnesota, giving Minnesotans 16 or older the opportunity to share the joys of fishing without the need for a license. During the rest of the year, individuals 16 or older are required to have a fishing license in Minnesota. During Take a Kid Fishing Weekend, the need for a license is waived to encourage adults to get children 15 and under out to experience fishing on Minnesota lakes, rivers, and streams.

While licenses may not be necessary if you're taking a kid out fishing, the rest of the rules and regulations still apply - including possession limits. It is also worth noting that regulations vary from one body of the water to the next, and these rules can change from year to year.
