The MN DNR has released a statement that anglers won't be able to keep any walleyes caught this year on Mille Lacs.  Also, anglers can only use artificial bait unless they are fishing from a commercial launch.

The DNR's goal is to rehabilitate the walleye population and allow smaller walleyes to grow.  DNR Fisheries chief Don Pereira hopes that these changes will make Mille Lacs a premiere walleye destination for years to come.  The catch and release program is the DNR's best bet to allow fishing to continue on the lake.

According to WDIO, Senator Dave Brown wants to override the decision as he believes that it is destroying the economy around the lake.
